Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT)

LBB - Lighthouse of the Big Bend located in Tallahassee, Florida is seeking a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT). This position will provide direct instructional services to clients ages 14 and older in both individual and group settings. This is a full-time position although we may consider part-time.

The CVRT will instruct persons with vision impairments in the use of compensatory skills and assistive technology that will enable individuals to live safe, productive, and independent lives. These include skills of daily living, communication, access technology, braille, pre-cane orientation and mobility, low vision, adjustment to vision loss, career education, sensory-efficiency, and self-determination. The therapist will work in areas that enhance vocational opportunities, independent living, and educational development. The CVRT will plan and implement vision rehabilitation services and complete appropriate documentation of client progress to maximize fulfilment of all deliverables.

The mission of LBB is to enhance the lives of individuals who live with vision loss in the Big Bend area through direct services, community engagement, and education. LBB serves individuals, from birth through life, who are legally blind and live in one the following counties: Franklin, Gadsden, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, or Wakulla. 

Compensation commensurate with experience. Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist

LBB - Lighthouse of the Big Bend located in Tallahassee, Florida is seeking a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) to provide individualized training to our clients who are blind or visually impaired. The COMS instructor will teach clients to travel safely and independently and to orient within their space. They work closely with clients and families to develop and implement individualized plans to help clients navigate their environment safely and independently.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Orientation & Mobility.
  • COMS certification through ACVREP.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Excellent report writing and computer skills required.
  • Working experience with databases for entering case notes and reports.
  • Excellent people skills with good judgment, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and ability to handle confidential material.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of a second language helpful but not required.

Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments

LBB - Lighthouse of the Big Bend located in Tallahassee, Florida is seeking a full-time Certified Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI). TVI will be responsible for developing and implementing an individualized, comprehensive program for students who are blind or visually impaired. The program should be based on the Critical Skills Model while focusing on students’ development of compensatory skills and self-esteem. TVI will provide direct instruction in vision specific goals area (Expanded Core Curriculum, braille, and assistive technology) as set by the IEP or IFSP.

Bachelor’s degree and certification is required.

Essential Functions: Candidate must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Teach visually impaired students in an individual and/or group setting. Instruct in the expanded core curriculum to support grade level content standards.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate individualized educational plan (IEP) with appropriate goals and objectives.
  • Conduct evaluations and assessments (FVLMA) to determine developmental status and academic status.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and IEP meetings.
  • Manage resources and complete all reports in a timely manner.
  • Researches and educates self with current educational trends and new developments in visual impairment.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
