As I’m about to begin my retirement from Lighthouse, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible people I have had the privilege of working with and serving over the years. Lighthouse has been one of the most fulfilling chapters of my career. I have been fortunate to see firsthand the difference our services make in the lives of individuals experiencing vision loss, as well as their families and our community. I am thankful to everyone who has supported our mission and believes in the work we do. Thank you for your support, friendship, generosity, and the many memories I will treasure. It has been an honor to be part of the Lighthouse family. 💙 Here’s to my next chapter😊 With gratitude, Debara

We’re excited to introduce our new Director of Community Relations, Yolanda Gillette-Carlson, @gilletteyoyo the newest member of the Lighthouse of the Big Bend team! Yolanda attended the University of Houston and holds several public health certifications. With more than 20 years of experience in human services, public health, and marketing Yolanda brings a wealth of knowledge and an incredible network of community connections. Yolanda has built strong relationships with organizations and community partners in the Big Bend region. She previously served on the Board of Directors for Lighthouse of the Big Bend and United Partners of Human Services, gaining understanding of the people we serve. Yolanda’s position at the Lighthouse is especially meaningful to her since she is the caregiver for her father, who is legally blind, and previously cared for her grandmother, who was also blind. These experiences have given Yolanda firsthand insight into the joys, challenges, and everyday realities that can come with supporting a loved one who is blind or visually impaired. Raised between New York City, Chicago, and Houston, Yolanda brings a unique perspective shaped by several vibrant bilingual communities. She is the proud mother of three young adults, who relocated to Tallahassee after 9/11, and she is happily married to her high school sweetheart. We’re thrilled to have Yolanda on our Lighthouse team! We can’t wait to see the relationships, ideas, and energy she brings to our mission of empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Welcome, Yolanda! We’re so glad you’re here! #guidingpeoplethroughvisionloss #seeingindependence #lighthouseofthebigbend #lbb Image description: Photo of Yolanda smiling.
